You Can Do a Headstand if You Have This...

A little over a year ago, I wrote a LaunchTip on using a headstand yoga inversion as a catalyst to shift perspective and open up creativity.

Today, I try to practice a headstand almost every day, not only because it is a great mental awakening, but also because it is a great physical supplement to any other exercise where you exert yourself aerobically. For example if you are a walker, hiker or runner, headstand is a great way to reverse the blood flow in your legs, such that muscle soreness is minimized. If standing on your head sounds scary or intimidating, I want to share with you an apparatus that I recently discovered from Gaiam, that completely eliminates any discomfort you might associate with this pose.

AIt is call the Yogacise Body Lift and it is worth its weight in gold, literally. (Please note that this is NOT an advertisement and no one is paying us to promote this item. I wish they were!) Caveat: I am not normally an advocate of excessive equipment when it comes to exercise, but I make an exception to the rule for this one. Check out the picture of me here from yesterday, using the lift to get into the pose. It is easy, refreshing and life altering. To read more about how headstand can facilitate launching success, please read my tip from last year.

Opening the Doors to Health, Wisdom & Happiness

One of my favorite ways to relax, especially when my coffee quota has been filled, is to drink a cup of tea. I recently discovered Teavana.

(NOTE: This is not a commercial, just a preference)
With a tagline that reads “Opening the Doors to Health, Wisdom & Happiness”, Teavana carries a selection of teas that are as fragrantly inspiring as they are health sustaining.
What I love most about Teavana is that you can mix and match different varieties and create your own perfect tin either with our without the help of an expert. Tea is not only soothing and pleasant to drink, but also contains many antioxidant and disease fighting properties that will keep launching ladies strong and harmonious during our journey of creating our dreams. Whether your preference is skin-enhancing white, immune system strengthening green, metabolism regulating oolong, cholesterol lowering black, cold fighting rooibos, or vitamin rich mate, you can find all varieties on Teavana’s website, or if you are lucky enough to have one near you, at one of their teahouses around the country.

The One Thing You Need Above Everything Else When Traveling

Every time I stroll through the airport, I still marvel that I am one of the few individuals sporting a carry-on bag with rotation wheels that roll, spin and pivot in multiple directions.

Why? Because all you have to do is try a bag with these wheels once and you’ll never go back to the old. The wheels are so versatile that they allow you to push the bag in front rather than behind you and to switch direction on the fly for ease of getting in and out of inadequate spaces. My brand of choice is the Brookstone Dash Carry-on, which offers a sleek design and a hardside, lightweight structure in several sizes, making them equally perfect for quick getaways or lengthy trips.

For a life-changing travel experience, this is one investment that is worth its weight in gold.

Detox with Alkaline Water

Lately I have a new obsession with water, but not just any water, the Alkaline kind.

Touted as a panacea for everything from Diabetes to Obesity, in a nutshell, Alkaline water restores the pH balance in the body, neutralizing acidity caused by stress, diet, air pollution, and, believe it or not, many bottled waters.

The impact? An antioxidant effect, that creates energy, burns fat and protects the body. What more could a launching lady ask for? Can you say “great taste”? In fact the most compelling reason to imbibe Alkaline water is for its taste. The silky, smooth, feel makes it easy to consume in large quantities, stay sufficiently hydrated and balance your pH levels. Where can you get some?

My favorite is Real Water. You can order it and have it delivered. This water has changed my life and cures headaches and dehydration like no other.

Prefer a super low-cost alternative? Prepare and drink lemon water. Believe it or not, lemons are alkaline and go a long way in restoring the acidity of non-alkaline waters and / or tap water.

My Favorite Astrology Readings

If you’re like me you may be a closet evangelist of “the stars.”

By “the stars” I mean, your astrological forecast. Although I’ve experimented with a few psychics and typically have the immediate impulse to turn straight to the astrology sections of most lifestyle magazines and websites before reading anything else, my absolute favorite astrological readings on the planet (no pun intended) are those provided monthly by Susan Miller on her website: www.astrologyzone.com. You couldn’t find a more well thought out, in-depth analysis of “the stars”, as it relates to your life, if you tried. Each forecast comes chock full of best dates for romance, career and your finances, as well as a summary of salient points.

Susan’s forecasts touch on and address every aspect of your life in a realistic, yet positive way.

Check out yours and let me know if you agree!

Open Happiness

I'm pretty sure few would dispute that one of the world's most successful and famous brands now and throughout history is none other than Coca Cola. Whether you agree with their tactics, like their beverages or know anything about how they have evolved their brand, it's pretty clear that whatever they've done, it's working. Their latest campaign, "Open Happiness", is not only a lesson in great branding, but also provides learnings about life's simple pleasures and the small things we can integrate on a daily basis for consistent and lasting happiness.

Having just returned from a visit to the World of Coca Cola with my seven-year-old daughter, here are the five things that the Open Happiness campaign says will put a smile on your face and lift you out of even the gloomiest of spirits: 1. Activity, meaning being active, engaging in cardio exercise that gets your heart pumping. 2. Being "in the now", meaning, living in the present moment and enjoying your life. 3. Being together, meaning, establishing feelings of connectedness with others. 4. Being curious, meaning non-judgmental and taking a posture of learning and interestedness in differences, and 5. Being giving. It has long been established that one of the quickest and easiest ways to feel good, is to apply a generosity of spirit to others. In fact, giving is the foundation of the Ladies Who Launch philosophy. Stay tuned for ways to use the LWL platform to integrate these concepts while growing your business.

A Favorite Healing Modality

When I first discovered BodyTalk, a form of energy healing using the body’s natural wisdom and muscle testing to discern imbalances and then re-synchronizing the body’s cellular communication through a series of tapping sequences, I must admit I was skeptical.

But having now experienced multiple sessions of this therapy over time, I am astounded by the results that have both physical and mental lasting effects. If you are unfamiliar with BodyTalk, you can learn more and find a practitioner near you by visiting the national website: www.bodytalksystem.com. BodyTalk is premised on the theory that exposure to the stresses of day-to-day life compromises the body’s natural communication systems, leading to a decline in physical, emotional and/or mental well-being. BodyTalk stimulates the body's innate ability to balance and heal itself, preventing disease and expediting the healing process.

Not sure about you, but I’m a big endorser of any treatment that can raise my energy, keep me healthy and catapult me to a higher emotional plane.

How you deal with obstacles is a happiness indicator

The experts say that defense mechanisms we employ when dealing with challenging circumstances and stressful situations is a happiness indicator. In one study, it was concluded that employing “mature adaptations”, as opposed to immature, neurotic or psychotic adaptations, is a major contributing factor to living longer. According to Vaillant’s analysis, “mature adaptations” include the following: altruism, humor, anticipation (looking ahead and planning for future discomfort), suppression (a conscious decision to not act impulsively and wait for a “good time” to address the conflict in question), and sublimation (finding outlets for feelings like exercise or hobbies). So the next time you experience a difficult encounter, try not to repress your feelings, disassociate from them or over intellectualize their meaning. Instead, refer back to this list of “mature adaptations” and proactively take control of your joy.

Realizing your dreams inspires others to live theirs.

I stumbled upon this quote about dreams from Sam Grawe, Editor-in-Chief of Dwell Magazine. I think it says it all about the importance of dreams and realizing them: "Many of us stockpile dreams for years, cataloging and filing them away for later. Some of our heads are so full of them that it is hard to believe there is enough room for them all. If space does become a concern, one of the best places to store a dream is in reality.
Once your dream has been realized, it is technically no longer your dream, but it may serve as inspiration for other peoples' dreams, in which case, it is still something of a dream. There is something of a dream in almost everything around us." I ask: What dream are you tabling that you could be setting in motion? We have a responsibility not only to ourselves, but to the hopeful world of others, to set the example that a life of realized dreams is possible. What's holding you back from starting your journey? Start now.
