Teresa grew up traversing cultures between South America and the United States, leading her to develop a strong global perspective at a young age. After gradudating college, Teresa chose to work in the International Development field. While based in NY, she spent the next five years working abroad for different international agencies and gaining hands-on experience in sustainable community development. Her work led her to live in El Salvador, Ecuador, Brazil and China.

Back in NYC, Teresa attended Columbia University to earn her Master’s degree in International Educational Development with the understanding that education is vital for creating social change and inclusive democracies. As she continued to work in the non-profit sector, the concept of social entrepreneurship and the growing sustainable fashion movement caught her attention. She could not help but see the opportunity for meeting what she foresaw as a growing demand for luxury handmade products, which could create economic opportunities for the artisans she had met throughout her travels.

In early 2011 Teresa founded NURAXI to create viable income-generation opportunities for artisans, in turn increasing awareness of ancient crafting traditions and growing the global artisan community. Teresa now travels the world to work with skilled artisans and designers who are committed to quality craftsmanship and sustainable production. She collaborates with them to assemble one-of-a-kind home and accessories collections, which are available through exlusive trunk shows and events.
