My husband, Scott, and I have been married eleven years. We both have worked in the financial services industry-- Scott, as a financial advisor with a 20 year track record and co-host of Investment Talk Radio, which airs on Saturday mornings on KABC-Los Angeles. I have worked as a copywriter in the financial services field. Despite high levels of financial literacy, we spent many years with crazy spending habits and conflicting values about money that led to turmoil in our relationship.
We also share a passion for marriages-- what makes them work? What makes good ones fail? We believe that part of the answer to what makes marriage work can be summarized in part by an equation: unique mission + plan to fund the mission - the lie we call the "American Dream" = fulfilling lifelong relationship that makes significant impact in our world.
Through this equation and the principles in our book, we have paid off over $100,000 in debt, started funding a long-term mission that we participate in now (not someday). We have also significantly reduced our expenses and found ways to increase after-tax income in an effort to fund our unique mission.
Our road to financial sanity and our revised version of the American Dream resulted in a heartfelt desire to share with younger couples what we and a small group of Scott's clients know to be true about real riches and true fulfillment.
