What a concept, huh? Being nice to YOU is a strategy for success. It was actually the most impactful lessons I gained after taking the Incubator Intensive workshop four years ago. After leading over 500 women through the Incubator – I can attest that most women also find it a challenge to treat themselves with the love, care, and honor they deserve.
Why is it important to be nice to YOU – EVERYDAY
- Think of the airplane analogy. If the air mask drops – you first have to put on your own before you can assist others. Doing nice things for yourself is like filling yourself up with the creative, emotional, and physical energy you need to perform and be there for others.
- When you do things that make you feel good – it SHOWS! You feel better and it rubs off on everyone around you. You become a magnet that attracts more nice things – opportunities and ideas just seem to come out of nowhere.
- You don’t need an excuse, a victory, or an accomplishment to do something nice for yourself. You deserve it no matter what. As women, we’re used to giving and not receiving. Making others happy first. There is nothing wrong with doing something for you. So get rid of the guilt, ladies – you deserve to prioritize YOU!
Top 10 Easy Ways to be NICE to you
Schedule a nice thing for yourself everyday – as if it’s your most important meeting of the day. Do your best to keep it. And if you don’t – be nice about it. Don’t beat yourself up.
Here are easy things you can do. Note, they can be small. Just a touch in your day can make all the difference.
- Eat your lunch anywhere but in front of your computer one day
- Call up a friend you haven’t talked to for a while
- Read a fun, non-practical book
- Get a mani/pedi
- Make that doctor appointment you’ve been pushing off (yes, this counts as a nice thing – it’s taking care of YOU)
- Clean out your purse
- Decide not to think any negative thoughts for a day
- Splurge on a massage
- Eat a brownie
- DO NOTHING! (This is my favorite)
I’d love for you all to respond to this blog with what NICE thing you have done for the day. It’s highly contagious when you start sharing – it sparks others to do it, too! For example, today my nice thing was to watch a movie after work. What’s yours?
