All this hot weather is making me feel lazy. How about you?
You may be relieved to hear that when it comes to getting organized, laziness can be your biggest ally.
The trick is to design your system around your “laziest common denominator”, meaning, doing things with the least number of steps. Often the biggest culprits on the path to disorganization are the smallest, such as: punching holes, opening a drawer, typing out a label, lifting a lid, having inadequate supplies, using a generic name for a document and getting out of your chair.
These actions seem easy enough on their own but when added to deadlines, overbooked schedules and just too much to do, the combination leads directly to disorganization.
Instead of punching holes in documents for binders, print directly onto 3-hole punched paper or just drop into file folders. If you’re battling an old filing cabinet and opening the drawers is a struggle, get a new one or use it only for archival documents. Try a desk top file for all your daily filing. Instead of printing out labels for your files, hand write them. Instead of papers piling up because you still need to buy filing supplies, always keep a surplus on hand. Instead of keeping your filing cabinet across the room, rearrange the space so that you don’t even have to get out of your chair to file papers.
Want to get out from underneath your stuff? Limit the amount of steps it takes to use your organizing systems. Go ahead. Embrace your laziness!!!!
Have a Space-tacular weekend,
