"I find that one of the most important things you can do that will really get projects moving quickly and set you apart from others around you is to follow up and take the initiative to get what you need. Have you ever worked with someone who always seems to get stalled in their projects or can’t meet deadlines, because, they say, “I’m waiting for her to call me back,” or “they haven’t gotten back to me yet,” or “I never received the e-mail”? These are all easy excuses to make, and may very well be factual statements. But if you want to succeed, you can’t sit on your hands and wait for everyone else to do what you think they should be doing, because they often won’t. Haven’t gotten a call back? Pick up the phone and call them again. Didn’t receive the report from your accountant that you need for a presentation? Track her down and ask for it again. Didn’t get a call from a potential client who said she was interested and would contact you? Contact her. Other people are often as busy as you, trying to juggle many tasks at once. Make yourself their priority by reaching out and asking for what you want or need. You’d be surprised by how few people do this."
