LaunchTip: It’s been researched and proven that being social, spending time with friends and putting yourself in environments of connecting and having fun is not only enjoyable, but is actually good for your health and contributes to longevity. In fact, I believe so strongly in anchoring yourself with friends and carving out time to be with them as a strategy for success in your business, that I am often the planner of such activities with my own crew. Remember that the purpose is to have fun and let go. When you take time out from your business, you return refreshed and rejuvenated, ready to tackle issues and rule the world! Below is one of my all time favorite social escapades—a girls’ night out! Read on for my top 5 tips for the best girls’ night out ever:
1. Think through the guest list, meaning imagine the kind of night you want and the people that will be perfect to achieve that. Mixing in people who know each other along with those that are just meeting is a great way to infuse new energy and unexpected conversations into the evening.
2. Have fun with seating. Plan a dinner at your favorite restaurant. Let everyone pick cards that contain two numbers in two different colors. For example, the blue number is their spot during dinner; the pink number is the spot during dessert. When you arrive at the table, designate spot number one and subsequent spots clockwise around the table. This is an easy way to take the stress out of seating and to make sure that everyone has fun but also experiences variety and different interactions.
3.Ride together. Consolidating in one or two cars is not only safe but also makes the good times last longer. Car rides are sometimes the best part of the evening. Prepare a party song list on an iPod or a CD and bring it along for the ride.
4. Prepare a list of questions to distribute during dinner. Prepare as many questions as you have people. Go around the table and have each person read their question, answer it for herself, then let each person at the table answer it for herself. The questions can be as provocative, mind boggling or silly as you want. You probably won’t get through all of them, but everyone will feel included and you may be surprised or fascinated by some of the answers. This exercise is a huge conversation enhancer and also facilitates learning new things about old or new friends. Below are a list of a few that I used recently:
1. What’s your secret sauce?
2. Share your 2009 proudest moment.
3. If you were a celebrity, who would you be?
4. A place you’ve never been but would like to travel to.
5. When are you happiest?
6. Favorite physical activity.
7. An hour of found time with no restrictions, what would you do?
8. One thing you can’t live without (besides kids, family, friends)
9. Words of advice to a college grad
10. What’s on the top of your Bucket List?

Postage Meters
If you are sending out postcards, brochures or other forms of direct mail to your customers, postage meters can be incredibly handy. A postage meter is a mechanical device that links up with a business account and provides paid postage for any mailing materials. In years prior, your employees or you would drive down to your local post office with a crate full of materials spending time to get these items mailed out. Now, companies can do it from their own office, or even home.
With postage meters, you can mail out documents daily and have your own account that deducts funds automatically.
