Your product has been endorsed by mom, dad and your book club. But before you invest your savings, hit the craft show circuit or any trade venue that will attract your target audience. Consumers, not retail buyers, are going to make or break your bottom line. Get out there and talk to tons of people.
You’ll learn a) if they like your product,
b) if they like it enough to buy it, and
c) what price they’ll pay for it.
If you don’t get at least a 75% approval rate, chalk it up to experience and get your creative wheels spinning again. You’re saving yourself heartbreak down the road because if you can’t get re-orders once you’ve gone retail, you have no business.
