LaunchTip: There are times in our lives when we feel unsafe. Although feeling unsafe is the quickest way to experience monumental change, we often resist the feeling when it hits us, or spend a substantial amount of time building out a mental infrastructure to avoid it. Oddly, the most impactful thing we can do to move something forward is to embrace the feeling and explore what it has to offer us in the moment. When we take ourselves out of our comfort zone and welcome the feelings of discomfort, we strip them of their negative power and are left to access what they can contribute to shift us forward. I’m not suggesting you take huge risks or operate without a “plan”—in fact discomfort can force us to evaluate our current strategies and adjusts our plans accordingly. But the first step towards getting there is crossing the comfort threshold and availing ourselves of the possibilities.

Payroll

The Small Business Administration has calculated that the smallest companies spend 45% more than larger companies per employee each year to comply with federal regulations, and 37% more on employee tax accounting and computation. Why is compliance with tax laws and other regulations so expensive for small businesses? One reason is that bookkeepers and payroll services don’t always come cheap, and so many small business owners choose to process payroll themselves, learning as they go. That decision can result in costly penalties when mistakes are made. So what’s a small business owner to do when confronted with the costs of payroll outsourcing versus the time and resources it takes to process payroll him- or herself? Find out costs to outsource a payroll company before the year end to help process taxes and close statements without any mistakes.
