Daily LaunchTip, November 12, 2008

From Daintry Springer, President, Black Sharp and Company Inc.

You’ve got to advertise in many media outlets to increase revenue. But as business picks up, be sure to scrutinize each campaign separately - email newsletter, radio, TV, - and identify what spoke to people and why. Don’t put off this crucial step. Just because you slept through super-advanced statistics in college you can do this. It’s really very easy - “How did you hear about my business?” That’s all it takes. Ask every single customer this question. Their answers will provide you with invaluable feedback about which marketing channels worked and which didn’t, allowing you to tweak your tactics and try again. It sounds rudimentary but believe me, it works!

I agree 100%. Every piece of information is of benefit when starting out. And a good practice to keep up when you are firmly established. One thing we have done is to add a field to ask our new registering members who recommended the site. This has provided invaluable information and was very easy to implement.

Many businesses have asked me, “How did you hear about my business?” and until today I just didn’t place much thought on it. It will become my very first intake question. The daily Launch Tips are becoming a daily habit at break-time. I love reading them while having a cup of coffee. Thanks.

Amen and amen! This is a question we have been asking for the last year or more–and the answers are enlightening. Those answers have played a significant role in helping us to decide where to spend out precious advertising dollars–and in knowing that we have made those decisions based upon real data and information.
