Daily LaunchTip, March 27, 2009

From Victoria Colligan, Founder, Ladies Who Launch

Today might be the day to put the big idea on hold and focus on execution. Sometimes it’s hard for creative and idea people to be driven to execute. If you don’t do it now, you’ll suffer disappointment later when things don’t turn out the way you imagined. The process of executing the details can be slow and require patience. Most important, patience with others, as well as the ability to communicate your vision effectively are ultimately required. Supporters, friends, partners and employees will emerge from the background to help you as long as you are clear and take the time to explain what you need. Flawless execution means assuming that no one can read your mind or see your vision exactly the way you do. If they could, they would be doing it themselves. Don’t get frustrated by taking the time. Focus on one thing and get it 100 percent right before moving onto the next. Only parallel track if you have support and enough people to help with the details so that nothing falls through the cracks. When you put your time in up front, you’ll be thrilled in the long run with the results: Providing a valuable product or service that people want to pay for.

I was just having that same conversation with another business owner yesterday. We like to think we can do it all ourselves AND often find we just don’t have sufficient time so we rush through it. We’ve both decided to try to slow it down and get it done right, even if that means hiring someone else to do it!

Thanks,

As we map our success we must break down our goals into measureable, attainable steps and find the experts who can walk with us along the way.

More and more people have been asking me to offer classes on online marketing. I find that people are trying to do more themselves because of their limited budget. They are therefore spreading themselves even thinner. I think we should concentrate on the things we do best.

This LaunchTip makes some excellent points because I think it is very important to focus on one thing at a time as well as communicate one’s goals effectively. Nothing is more frustrating than when someone expects someone else to read their mind.
