When Carol Bartz, the new CEO of Yahoo, spoke at the recent All Things D conference in San Diego, she shed some interesting light on Yahoo’s history as it relates to their future. Much of what she revealed seemed to come from a position of strength—a sign of her belief in the company’s greater vision and strong foundation. Above all else, she offered some words of advice that stuck with me, at least enough to share with all of you: Do a good job and talk about it. It may sound obvious or less than profound, but when you focus on this concept throughout your day, you’ll notice how many people fail to do one or both of these things. Doing a superior job is what separates the good from the great, high quality from mediocrity. Talking about it is what spreads the word, helps you stand out from the crowd, and ultimately can tip the scales from niche to mainstream. In a nutshell, what she is saying is: Create an exceptional product and let the world know about it in the biggest way possible!
