Daily LaunchTip, January 2, 2009

January 2nd, 2009 · 8 Comments

From Jenny Yerrick Martin, founder Momentum Advantage Career Services

Running a business is a process similar to driving on back country roads. You won’t see any signs of life for miles, then you’ll go up, up, up a hill, around some curves, negotiate some obstacles, deal with dips and more dips, and have to anticipate when to land on the gas or stop and get some more. It’s a beautiful ride unlike any other. An entrepreneurial journey is exactly the same, and expecting uncertainty is key. If you do you’ll not only enjoy it more, you’ll be level-headed in an emergency, prepared to react to unexpected opportunities, and intelligent with your time. With this in mind I’d like to suggest to all entrepreneurs that in addition to the classic, concrete New Year’s Resolutions (get in shape, organize desk) we all learn to accept highs and lows as part of this exciting process rather than as frustrating road blocks. Think of it this way – if country roads were all perfectly straight and predictable, John Denver would have sung “Take me home, country freeway.” Doesn’t have quite the same ring to it, don’t you agree?
