LaunchTip:
Feeling down, unmotivated or indecisive? Experts in positive psychology might tell you to “imagine the worst” as a first step towards getting out of a rut. Optimists say that when you mentally review what could go wrong in a very specific scenario, you are more likely to consider solutions and feel prepared, ultimately reducing anxiety and enhancing your coping skills. The key to this strategy is to be specific. Avoid generalized negative thoughts like “my life will fall apart” or “I’ll lose all my money.” Instead hone in on your worry in a very granular way and determine solutions or methods of dealing with each problem on a stand-alone basis.
