Daily LaunchTip, February 25, 2009

February 25th, 2009 · 3 Comments

From Victoria Colligan, Founder and CEO, Ladies Who Launch

Ever heard the expression your eyes are bigger than your stomach? Well it doesn’t only apply to kids faced with macaroni and cheese. Eager, over-excited entrepreneurs are affected by the same “I want it all NOW” mentality too. As women launching businesses, our passions make us antsy and we push for things to happen faster than is realistic. But to quote yet another familiar saying, patience is a virtue. Take your time; enjoy the journey. Sometimes when we try to grow too fast, we make impetuous, rash decisions and lose the focus we need to be successful. This is one reason I always advise women to be wary of raising venture money too quickly; it could work to your detriment, forcing your business to expand quicker than you can handle and denying you the necessary time to build a trusted brand or evolve intelligently. Please don’t get me wrong – I’m not trying to quash your burning desires or discourage growth! But slow and steady often really does win the race, proving there’s something to be said for old wives tales!
