LaunchTip:
One of the most important things you can do when trying to grow a business is build your support team. I was recently conversing with a fellow successful entrepreneur about how to attract a qualified team; we both agreed that at first, it is a process of trial and error. We are often instinctively drawn to people who are “like us” when who we really need to attract are individuals with opposite skill sets and, in some cases, different personalities. It can sometimes be challenging to differentiate between attracting those with similar values (a must) and those with similar skill sets (a pitfall). But one thing is certain, that once you get the ball rolling in the right direction and begin to hire even one person who is the “right fit”, other optimal “fits” begin to fall into place, like a domino effect, as the first person attracts the next person and so on and so forth.

The bottom line here is twofold: First, acknowledge that you can’t do it alone and if you want to get to the next level, you will need to invest in a support team around you, whether new hires, an outsourced team, partnerships or trades. Second, be willing to make hard choices, admit you’ve been wrong, and make corrections quickly. The most successful entrepreneurs I know are compassionate yet firm, self-assured, yet able to face their mistakes. Ultimately, success is a function of stamina, staying power, and resilience. Those who “tough it out” and put optimal support teams in place are the most likely to succeed.
