LaunchTip: Along with toning and lengthening the leg and hip muscles, Dancer’s Pose in yoga develops concentration and balance—two attributes I find especially compelling to cultivate during the chaos of the holiday season. There is nothing like the distraction (albeit fun on some level) of the holidays to take us way from what’s important to accomplish for our businesses to thrive. What I’ve learned over the years is that we don’t have to submit to the “holiday script”—that which is dictated by a long line of traditions and expectations—but rather we can enjoy the holidays and create out of the them, something meaningful to us. I urge you to let go of the guilt of what you haven’t done or have yet to do, and engage fully in the moment, picking and choosing what feels right to you as we inch closer to the final days of December. If that means bailing on the holiday card or opting out of gingerbread house-making, then so be it. Check in with yourself constantly on your values in each moment and don’t be swayed by others’ convictions on what is right or deemed “appropriate.” To strengthen your authenticity muscle during these frenzied weeks, try out Dancer’s Pose which will open your heart and focus your mind so decisions are easier and any tension slips away.
