ECommerce Having a shopping cart feature allows your visitors to store multiple items they wish to purchase while they are still browsing your site. This is a good feature to have because it makes the process more convenient and even encourages your visitors to make multiple purchases.

There are two options for your shopping cart solutions–hosted software and purchased software.

Hosted Software: This option is more secure as it presents potential hackers more obstacles having to navigate the hosted company’s firewalls. One downside however is that there are many companies out there offering this and not all of them are reputable, so it’s important to take time and research the different options.

Purchased Software: This gives you the most control over your software and there will be no lag time if you wish to change your system or products. However, more control means more responsibility too, as you will be more vulnerable to hackers and any changes you wish to make might be difficult if you are unfamiliar with programming.

Once you have decided on the type of software that will operate your shopping cart, it’s time to decide the exact cart you want for your site. The best way to go about this is go onto other e-commerce sites and simulate the shopping process through checkout, noting which ones you think are the easiest to navigate with your customers in mind.
