“I always thought working from home was the ideal set-up. I imagined myself having tons of free time without the commute and never again having to worry about fitting the cable guy into my schedule. Boy was I wrong. As it turns out, working out of a home office can actually make you less efficient. The distractions of the telephone, TV, dog, doorbell, laundry, and chores can seriously interfere with a work groove. Not to mention the calls from friends and family members who think you really do nothing all day but wait for Oprah (okay, some days that’s accurate).
So make sure to follow a regular 9-5 schedule (work out, shower, and get ready the way you would for a regular job), save the personal calls for your lunch hour, and leave the errand-running (even checking the mail) for when you’re done. That way, if you finish by 3:00, you can truly relax instead of multitasking your way through a disorganized day.”
