7 Steps to Realizing ANY Dream

Making dreams a reality often feels far away—you want something, but how do you make it happen? I’ve learned, both in realizing my own dreams and being a conduit for others realizing theirs, that there is, in fact, a recipe. I’ve distilled what continues to prove itself over and over, and what can help you realize any dream on your horizon.
But first, here are a few of the dreams that have come true for me:
Here are the steps I used and continue to utilize in building all dreams, big and small …
1. Vision. We need a vision to make things happen. What we can’t see we can’t create. Yet, on the other hand, whatever we visualize will probably not happen. Not in that way. Our information is too limited for us to be able to see the bigger picture, but we still need to visualize the next level in order to get there. It’s almost like we need to pretend to see before we really can see, and without the pretending we won’t get to the real thing.
2. Courage. We need tons of courage to make our dreams come true. Because most of the time the journey toward our dreams will really suck! Sorry for being so blunt, but the road to freedom was never supposed to be easy, and in reality we never would want it any other way, just as any maker of computer games knows. If we could breeze through level after level, we would tire of the game immediately. So there is a logic to the struggle. While following the path we will be asked to take leaps of courage without knowing if we will land safely. To let go of the things that hold us back, without knowing if something or someone will replace that emptiness. To be lost, without knowing if we actually will find a way back. There are no guarantees, life is not safe! But in the end, courage always pays off because it expands our horizons and makes us into better human beings.
3. Stamina. In order to realize our dreams, we need to be very committed, and know that our journey will last a lot longer than we could have imagined. And it will take much more energy than we would like it to take. And for this we need staying power. Even if the only thing left for us to do is claw forward with bloody knuckles, we still can’t give up on ourselves and our dreams. We are much too important for that.

What a wonderful article. I have struggled most of my life to be what someone else thought I should be and, no, it didn’t make me happy at all. I suffered from low self-esteem and anything I started I knew I would fail; why? because I had been told that would happen. The things I was really interested in were ‘hobby’ things not ‘practical’ and my ideas and interests were ’stupid’. It took fighting a spiral descent into the hell of deep depression to realize that I was a good person with thoughtful ideas. But there was still that nagging that I wouldn’t be able to succeed. I guess I’ve had a life-altering attitude adjustment because I’ve decided to pursue MY dreams and goals and since I’ve taken that stand I’ve suddenly found so many “omens” if you will that show me I’m heading in the right direction.
This article being one of them. It speaks to me of so many things I have been finding to be true and the more I read and hear them the more eager I am to see where this road will take me.
I think this website is going to be such a wonderful thing for me and I’m so glad I found it.

Lotta, very nice and inspiring article. To fulfill our dreams we need tenacity, integrity, courage and a great shade of lipstick that will last all day
All the while keeping the house in order, packing lunches, volunteering at school, keeping sports uniforms clean and staying on top of our calender of events. I would not trade my life for anyones. My husband says he would not trade jobs with me (as a homemaker) for all the tea in China.
My heart breaks to hear of Cathy’s past life and want to be of great encouragement to you Cathy to continue reading this great website and know without a shadow of a doubt that you were fearfully and wonderfully made by God with a distinct purpose in this life. Ask Him and He will show you His marvelous plan for your life.

Very inspiring words! I take to heart your 2nd step: Courage. So true, that to make a dream come true one must take a leap of courage and have faith that your path will materialize as you take steps towards your goal. One of my favorite sayings goes something like this: Leap and the net will appear!
Thank you for the great advice!

Very inspiring article! I see the “vision” part already unfold for me. You have to have a vision, but be willing and aware of the need to shift it, revise it while keeping it real. Indeed, it takes a lot longer that you ever thought.
Stamina. I am so happy that I have it. Every day’s small movement toward my goal makes me more determined to keep moving forward.
Thank you for sharing!
