CEO, Nwenna Kai Enterprises
In her early 20's, Nwenna Kai was always sick. She suffered from vertigo, a thyroid disorder, chronic constipation, acne, chronic fatigue syndrome, depression, anxiety, sciatica, and migraines. Not only was she always sick, but with two degrees from Howard University (B.A. in French) and The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (M.F.A. in creative writing), she wandered aimlessly through different jobs as a college professor, administrative assistant, TV producer, receptionist, and unemployed writer.
After healing herself with a raw foods diet, herbs, acupuncture, yoga, meditation, and prayer, Nwenna Kai turned her passion for holistic and natural eating and living into a business and career that she is committed to for life. Before the age of 30, with no restaurant experience, her home-made recipes, and serving as her own investor, she opened up one of Los Angeles' pioneering raw food restaurants, catering companies, and product lines called Taste of the Goddess Café. Beating the odds of being a first-time, sole and black woman-owned restaurant, with no experience in one of the hardest male-dominated businesses even in a robust economy, she owned and operated the establishment for a four-year run.
But having entrepreneurial genes and getting real clear about her vision and purpose for her life, she stayed the course by publishing her first raw foods preparation book, The Goddess of Raw Foods and selling thousands of copies with no marketing budget, doing consulting work with a raw foods restaurant and yoga studio in Australia, and teaching individuals, communities, and organizations around the world about living a holistic and natural lifestyle through her tele-seminars, onsite classes, speaking engagements, and articles.
Her work as a health and wellness entrepreneur has garnered her many radio, TV, magazine, and blog interviews on E-Entertainment, The Travel Chanel, KTLA Los Angeles, Your LATV, Raw Epicurean, The LA Examiner, Innerlightradio.com, Blog Talk Radio, KPFK 90.7 FM Radio in Los Angeles, Self Magazine, KJLH Los Angeles Front Page with Dominique DiPrima, LIB Radio, HealthBeat Radio with Jenny Gallagher, WURD AM Radio Philadelphia, KYTN Gospel Radio 1460 AM in Los Angeles, The Power XM 160 on Satellite Radio with Shawna Cocoa, Purely Delicious, Heart & Soul Magazine, Raw Mocha Angels, and VegCooking.com. She is a featured chef in The Ultimate Encyclopedia of the Raw Food Lifestyle DVD series. For her work as a health and wellness entrepreneur, she was awarded the 2007 Elizabeth Dole Young Entrepreneurial Scholarship sponsored by Women Impacting Public Policy (WIPP).
A staunch advocate for healthy, natural, and holistic eating, living, and healing she firmly believes that the mind, body, and spirit can heal anything! With her story about healing, she unapologetically declares how She has never been sick!
Nwenna Kai draws from her experience of being an entrepreneur, raw foods chef, author, artist, and holistic health coach, and consultant to speak to audiences about health and wellness, entrepreneurship, vision/purpose, and women's health.
