Journalist, Author and Television Host
She was the co-host of ABC’s Good Morning America from 1980 through 1997 and is the author of 8 best-selling books. On Good Morning America for nearly two decades, Joan Lunden was one of the most popular television co-hosts. Lunden started at the ground level in the news business. She was hired as a trainee at a local news station in 1973 and quickly rose up the ranks. By 1975, Lunden was a weather person, reporter, and anchor for the station. That year, she left her native California for New York City to take a job at WABC. Four years later she won the coveted job as co-host of Good Morning America.
Raising three young children as America watched, Lunden became a role model for working mothers everywhere. Despite a demanding schedule that involved getting to work before dawn, she still found time for other projects. In her autobiography, Good Morning, I’m Joan Lunden, she shared some of the challenges she faced as a female journalist. In 1987 Lunden was paired with Charles Gibson forming a pair the audience loved and launching the show to number 1 in the morning television race.
Today, Joan is an entrepreneur – under her Joan Lunden Brand is her bedding line, Joan Lunden Home, sold on QVC and Walmart.com; her child safety device, Kinderkord, which she developed, brought to market, and is now selling nation-wide; and her skincare line, Murad Resurgence. As a longtime women’s health and wellness advocate, 5 years ago Lunden launched Camp Reveille, girls getaways held around the country. All of Lunden’s ventures can be seen on her new website focused on women’s health, wellness, and ease of living, JoanLunden.com.
