McFarland is President of Wellness for Cleveland Clinic. In this role, he works to bring many of the Clinics well-known, clinically-validated wellness programs, services and products to patients, caregivers, consumers, physicians and businesses to meet their health and wellness needs. McFarlands efforts support the Clinics Wellness Institute, whose members are dedicated to making preventive care the driving force in medicine and provide the clinical backing for its mind, body and food programs. McFarland is accountable for the strategic and tactical planning, development, distribution and coordination of new wellness innovations that improve health and the cost effectiveness of healthcare delivery. The goal of Cleveland Clinics wellness efforts is to minimize the physical, emotional and economic costs of illness through health and wellness services and education.

His professional background includes leading business transformations through large-scale client server integrations and eBusiness strategies. McFarland also is a frequent lecturer on web-enabled health care and commerce issues at numerous universities and professional meetings. He is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, the American Bar Association and the American Intellectual Property Association. He earned a bachelor of science from Purdue University and a doctor of jurisprudence from the Drake University Law School.
